Medical massage is treatment-focused bodywork with a specific therapeutic goal — pain, scar tissue, post-surgery recovery, or a diagnosed condition — coordinated (when appropriate) with your physician or physical therapist. Sessions are shorter and more targeted than a general massage, and every treatment builds toward a measurable outcome you and your therapist agree on upfront.
Not to book with us — but if you're planning to submit to insurance or an FSA/HSA, most plans require an MD referral. We can generate a receipt with the appropriate treatment codes.
Sometimes — coverage varies wildly by plan. FSAs and HSAs almost always cover it with a referral. Call your insurer before your first session with our billing question sheet (we'll send it to you).
Depends entirely on the procedure and your surgeon's clearance — could be 2 weeks (light scar work) or 8-12 weeks (deeper mobilisation). Never guess; get your surgeon's sign-off.
Different intent. Deep tissue is 'work these muscles hard'; medical massage is 'help this specific tissue heal in this specific way'. The pressure is often lighter but the technique is more surgical.
